News reports said a factory explosion in a port city south of Shanghai on Sunday killed at least two people and injured at least 30 others as it knocked down buildings and left streets littered with damaged cars and debris.
Footage showed rescuers wearing helmets carrying injured people away from the area, while others stood over a person lying on the ground.
Local officials say at least two people have been killed and dozens more injured in explosion in the eastern Chinese port city of Ningabo.
According to the report of the official Xinhua News Agency the explosion struck a neighborhood along the Yong River at about 8:55 am.
That explosion was not surprising, because there are pervasive industrial accidents in China, these industrial accidents have prompted growing calls for better safety standards.
The explosion happened in an industrial area, and residential buildings damaged nearby were already empty ahead of planned demolition, Chinese media said.
It has been toughening punishments and tightening site inspections for safety lapses, the government says.
